Director Remo D’Souza, wife on cheating claims: False picture is being painted

Choreographer-director Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle have addressed accusations of cheating a dance troupe out of Rs 11.96 crore. The couple explained their side of the story through a statement on Instagram.
They refuted cheating claims and asserted that the allegations were completely false.
“This press note is released by M/S Remo D’souza Entertainment Pvt. Ltd(‘RDEPL’) only for the limited purpose of clarifying queries received related to media reports in relation to alleged fraud committed in relation to dance group(Vunbeatable). It seems at the instance of some vested interest unfortunately a wrong and false picture is being painted as if, Mr Remo D’Souza and other directors/associates of our company-rdepl are indulging in the acts of fraud and misappropriation. In this connection, we would like to say that it has come to our knowledge that an FIR has been registered at instance of one Mr Veergovindam Navrottam against the seven persons by Mira Road Police station which include RDEPL. Mr Remo D’souza and Mrs Lizelle D’Souza are directors of RDEPL (sic),” the note read.
Further, the statement read, “The said informant appears to file a petition before the honourable high court claiming that the police is not taking cognizance of the complaint lodged by him against Mr. Omprakash Chauhan and others. We would like to state that the rdepl and its directors have no connection with the alleged cheating of rs.11.96 corer (sic).”
“The said allegations are apparently made against Mr. Omprakash Chauhan, who was the member/co-founder of the same dance group and his associates, who have also filed a writ petition before honourable high court seeking appropriate directions against the group manager Mr Mahesh More, and others for registration of an offence. The said matter is sub-judice before the honourable high court. The vunbeatable group in the year 2018 participated in a dance reality show named Dance Plus. The judge of the show was Remo D’Souza (sic),” it added.
The note then provided details regarding an agreement between the Vunbeatable dance group and RDEPL, a production company, for the creation of a motion picture based on the group’s journey.
It also addressed a dispute that arose between group members and Mr Om Prakash Chauhan, one of the group’s leaders. Additionally, the statement clarified certain allegations made against choreographer Remo D’Souza.
Based on a complaint by a 26-year-old dancer, a case was registered at Mira Road police station in Mumbai on October 16 against Remo, his wife Lizelle, and five others under sections 465 (forgery), 420 (cheating), and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, a police official said.
According to the FIR, the complainant and his troupe were allegedly cheated between 2018 and July 2024.
