Karnataka’s Nandini ghee becomes exclusive supplier for Tirupati laddus

Nandini ghee has become the exclusive supplier for the famous Tirupati laddus, with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) planning to increase its order significantly, said Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) President Bheema Naik. This comes amid the ongoing controversy over the alleged adulteration in the laddus made using ghee from other brands.
Naik said that TTD assured to raise its ghee order from 300 metric tonnes to 3,000 metric tonnes. “Over the last 15 days, we have delivered 350 metric tonnes, and they have assured us that the order will be revised to 2,000 to 3,000 metric tonnes,” the KMF President said.
The temple reportedly distributes at least 3.5 lakh laddus daily, spending over Rs 250 crore annually on ghee for the laddus.
Naik expressed pride in Nandini ghee becoming an integral part of the sacred prasadam.
“Tirupati TTD officials have informed us that only Nandini ghee will be used in the laddus made at Tirupati. It’s a proud moment for us that Nandini, the pride of Karnataka, will be part of the Tirupati laddus. We are happy to serve the Tirupati Tirumala Temple,” Naik added.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu previously accused the usage of substandard ingredients, including fish oil and beef tallow, in the ghee used to prepare Tirupati laddu prasadams during Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration. Lab reports confirmed the presence of these ingredients, leading to the cancellation of contracts with companies supplying ghee to the temple.
Karnataka government has also ordered all the temples in the state to use only Nandini ghee.
